The Number One amigurumi technique you need to know

There are a TON of posts out there titled, “Crochet techniques you need to know”. I really just want to focus on the main one that helped me here!

Ok so TECHNICALLY there isn’t a NUMBER ONE technique for everyone, but this is definitely MY number one technique.

I honestly feel like it made my amigurumi look two times better! It’s called… drum roll……

The Seamless Join!

What is the seamless join? It is a technique used to join the separate pieces of your amigurumi together without having the edges of the pieces showing. It looks like one seamless piece!

Here is an example where the seamless join technique was NOT used. Look at the edge of Beanie the Bunny’s green hat. You can see the V’s on the edges. This is shown on purpose here, but I want you to see the difference:

the number one amigurumi technique you need to know

Here the seamless join WAS used. Look at how the ear was joined to my Kiki the Koala’s head. It is a smooth transition and you do not see the V’s that were on the edge of the ear. These were separate pieces. This gives it a seamless and continuous look!

On my Twigalina doll, you don’t see a noticeable seam where I joined the smaller twig to the larger one.

Let’s talk materials:

There is literally ONE material that matters when it comes to the seamless join technique: A BENT YARN NEEDLE. Once you watch this video tutorial, you will see how DIFFICULT this could be if you use a straight needle. You need to be able to get your needle in and curve it back up.

So do yourself a favor; GET THE BENT YARN NEEDLE!

I’ll say it one more time just in case you’re still thinking to do this with a straight needle; GET A BENT YARN NEEDLE!

BENT YARN NEEDLE! Ok I’m done, I promise.

Ok here’s the video tutorial!

Leave a comment and let me know if you notice and enjoy
the difference this makes on your amigurumi!
