I am obsessed with avocados.
I mean, REALLY obsessed. I always have one in the fridge, 1 in a bowl to ripen more, and 1 that is ready to eat!
So yea, it was necessary to make something avocado themed.
Here’s a video showing it in action! It really does bubble up with soap! I washed regular dishes, as well as pots and pans with it!
I can guess that a lot of you shy away from this type of yarn used in this pattern (I usually do!), but I was SURPRISED at how I was still able to see my stitches when working with it!
Here’s a short video I did showing the Red Heart Scrubby Yarn and how you can see the stitches:
Using a stitch marker is a must of course! Here’s a video on how to use one:
1. The Avocado
2. The egg.
A simple color change will make the egg! The pattern is identical!
NOTE: You can do the entire sponge with scrubby yarn, or just the center in scrubby yarn, and cotton yarn for the rest. Both options are shown below.

4. Stitch markers.
STITCHES: (U.S. Terms)
Magic ring: (Tutorial below)
sc: single crochet
st(s): stitch(es)
sl st: slip stitch
hdc: half double crochet.
dc: double crochet.
tr: triple crochet (or treble crochet)
NOTES:
1. Do continuous rounds.
2. Do not use Acrylic yarn if you plan on using this to wash dishes, it can melt.
3. Finished size: 4.75 inches long (12.065 cm) x 3.875 inches wide (9.8425).
After row 3, it purposely creates a slightly curved look like the avocado pit.
Color change to the yellow yarn for the avocado.
Keep going with yellow for the egg. Here is a video tutorial on color changes:
For the egg, switch to white for the rest of the rounds.
Color change to the medium green avocado color on the last st of row 7 if you are doing the avocado.
For the avocado, color change to the dark green “Dark Pine” color.
NOTE: I use this cotton dark green yarn even on the option with more of the scrubby yarn. I like the contrast of the cotton edge with the scrubby yarn, but feel free to continue row 10 with the scrubby yarn as well!
Sl st to the next st and weave the tail in with a yarn needle on the back side. Make sure to weave it in MULTIPLE directions to really secure it.
